Your pattern should tell you the number to cast on and you can adjust it accordingly. Just make sure that you cast on according to what corresponds with your pattern. For example if your pattern is a multiple of 4 then you don't want to add 1, 2 or 3 stitches. You'll need to add or subtract 4 stitches at a time to follow the design pattern so it works out or the socks won't look like you're expecting them to. Always keep a notebook of changes you've made and patterns you've changed including the book it was in, page number and yarn you used. Then you're ready to make another pair without too much trouble. I have 2 looms and work on each one a row or two at a time using row counters that are numbered with a Sharpie 1 and 2, and the looms are marked 1 and 2 on the bottom. Well worth the cost of another sock loom. Never have to make that dreaded "other sock" because the pair is done at the same time. Also is this the smallest gauge one? thank you!** A: Yes, this is the one with closer set pins of the two by this company; I have both. This loom is the equivalent to circular knitting needles. It is adjustable in that you can make the diameter of the "circle" you are working with larger or smaller by moving the small horizontal bar forwards and backwards encompassing more or less side pegs. You cannot knit in a square, so this makes a tube. You can make a heal by only knitting on one side of the loom to make the extra bump for the heal. It is NOT faster than conventional knitting with three dp needles, however, if you do not know how to knit, or tried and found it difficult, this may work. It is also easier on arthritic hands with an ergonomic pick. I can no longer hold small Guage needles, so gave this a go. **Q: IS THIS THE FINE GAUGE?** A: Yes, in comparison to the round plastic ones this is fairly small. It's funny, I am wearing a pair of socks right now that I made on my loom. I know opinions and experiences wary, but I love it. It does come with a dvd which I think is very helpful. There are also videos on youtube, just type in "knitting loom". Hope this helps. **Q: what weight yarn works with this loom?** A: Marilyn to tell you the truth, we could NEVER get this to work for us. We tried all types, sizes and weights of yarn and none of them worked. We even went over to a yarn shop and the lady told us she never could get this to work for her either. This is my first experience with a loom or board of any kind, though now that I know they exist I'm looking at others. I wanted something not to expensive in case I hated it, plus socks! As I get older my poor tired toesies want socks! The knitting board is well constructed. The pets easy to move. The instruction booklet is okay, but there are really good instruction videos on you-tube that show step by step how to use this, or similar boards. For a nervous beginner this board is small enough not to be intimidating, sturdy enough I'm not afraid of breaking it with my knitter-puppy clumsiness, and the wider spaced pegs are great for my fumbling beginnings.The board came with a booklet, although online is better, and a knit hook, everything I needed to start but the yarn. This makes thicker worsted weighted socks, they make thinner tighter pegged ones for thinner yarn. I will probably get another one but for now I like the space to get the yard around and the hook in while I'm learning. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice sock loom *by D***Y on May 15, 2025* The product came in on time and as described. Well made looks simple to use.. this was a purchase for my husband who loans and wanted to try this sock loom. I will revise the video once someone’s made socks on it and let you know how it goes. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ but I think with practice that will get better in time *by A***R on June 30, 2016* I got this today and have been playing around with it for awhile. I have some experience with the smaller starter loom from KB which is narrower and smaller in general. This is proving a little more difficult to hold, but I think with practice that will get better in time.Right out of the box I had to tighten the hex screw on the non-adjustable end because the 5 peg connector was really loose and wobbly. I don't think that everyone will have the correct size allen wrench laying around, so I wish that the manufacturers would include one in the kit, as these types of screws loosen over time anyway. I don't think this is a defect in anyway, but it is worth keeping at the back of your head.My first impressions is that other than the tightening of a screw, it is well made and sturdy. The pegs are plastic but are very good quality. My previous loom has taken a beating with my butter fingers and too tight tension and I haven't had an issue.When working with a smaller sock (toddler size) the interior pegs on the adjustable part are hard to get to if you are doing a stitch that requires you to come up from the bottom of the peg.
