Review: BEST Ferro Rod. Period. - So, some years back, getting a bit into woodcraft and the outdoors, I bought one of those gimmick "Bear Grylls" knives (yes, I know, live and learn, haha) and, while the included ferro rod was a cool idea, it was rather useless, being quite small and not generating much spark, at all. Since then, learning more, I've opted to try various dedicated ferro rod/striker set ups, instead of some version tossed into a bundle of other so-called "survival" items. It just seems a very reliable means of making a fire, as opposed to even waterproofed matches, lighters that can run out of fuel, etc. No, I don't live outdoors, or face survival needs at my office, lol, so, no, it's not a life and death thing, by any means, but, as I say, getting into the outdoors, it seemed a practical skill to learn, and a practical tool to have on hand for the most basic need of being able to make fire. I learned about the various compounds used, and went for a European made kit, and it strikes fairly well. I also bought a few China made kits, with so-so results. Now, I know this is manufactured in China, but whatever factory they are using under whatever agreement is producing a top notch product here, for an excellent price! It is superior to my European made kit, producing far more spark. Bottom line, this is a real world fire starting tool. The amount of spark is more than needed to light any kind of decent tinder. I came across Pyro Puddy here on desertcart, and, in combo with this rod and striker, you could get a fire going in almost any condition. I can also successfully light fat wood shavings, easily, as well as just basic wood shavings, or, as I say, any practical tinder. Only drawback is the heavy coating on the rod, which takes a bit of work to remove. I finally used a sanding file to get down to the actual striking surface and, once fully exposed, it is spark heaven. The striker itself is excellent. Yes, it is not a particularly beautiful set up, haha, but, again, a lot of the kits made to look nice aren't as functional. As I say, this is a tool. It performs as such. This is also much larger that other options, so, more spark, and longer lasting rod, plus more surface from which to generate spark. I am incredibly pleased, and it is a valued part of my camping or hiking pack now. I like it so much that I even use it to light the fires in my fireplace! It's just fun and rewarding to be able to "make fire" this way. So, yes, very highly recommend this product! For a novice, intermediate, or expert, this one gets it done. Five stars! Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps in your search for a good ferro rod. :)
Review: Excellent firestarter - This is one fantastic fire starting rod, the size is perfect at a half inch thick so it’s going to last a long time and it’s easy to hold, the length makes it very easy to get a good long strike with and a lot of red hot sparks.

## Features

- Length of the rod: 6"(15.3cm). Diameter of the rod is approx 1/2"(12.7mm). 9ft Paracord included, gives you a good grip and never comes off. bayite new Striker-Pro striker included, always be prepared to start a fire
- bayite 6 Striking Edges Striker-Pro striker is made from TOOL GRADE HSS STEEL and has a distinct hardness, maximizes a shower of hot sparks, no matter whether you prefer to use your left hand or right hand to scrape.
- EXTRA LARGE. Super thick and large rod throws a MASSIVE shower of hot sparks to light fire instantly in any conditions. Windproof & weather resistant. Fits all weather
- You can also use the back of a blade from an box cutter. That's the most efficient scraper that can be found easily. Don't use bad quality Knife as striker. Otherwise it will not produce enough sparks due to insufficient hardness of blade.
- Provides up to 3000 degrees C spark in all weather, at any altitude. Durable, lasts for approximately 12,000 strikes. Perfect emergency fire starter for Bushcraft, Hiking, Hunting, Fishing, Camping, EDC, Emergency, BBQ, Gas Camp Stoves, etc

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many strikes is this rated up to?**
A: This is a very large rod comparing with others. The diameter is 1/2 inch. It's 6 inch long. As you can see, LMF's firesteel 2.0 fire starter(3/8" x 3 3/4") Lasts 12,000 strikes. The volume of this rod is almost 3 times of the LMF's firesteel 2.0 fire starter. So in the same condition, the rod lasts about 36,000 strikes.

**Q: How is the quality on these? Do they give out good sparks?**
A: This things throws a shower of sparks. Used this during a 8 day camping trip with no matches or lighter to start all our fires. Never had any issues starting any and definitely recommend getting this one. It’s nice that it has the striker hooked on to it so they don’t get separated but if so a good quality high carbon knife works well too.

**Q: How does it perform compared to the smaller (3.14 inch length)Bayite Ferrocerium Ferro Rod pack of 3 ???**
A: The smallest Bayite Rod I've used is the 4"x3/8" and it produced about 50% of the sparks of the larger rods. In a pinch, the extra $5 for the 5" or 6"X1/2" unit is probably the best $5 I'll ever spend. It's also the reason I hunt with a 12 gauge instead of a .410.

**Q: What is the unpackaged weight of this item?**
A: net weight of the product is about 5.36oz

I was very impressed with this product it is very well-made. What really caught my eye was the braided lanyard. I ordered another one as a back up. This will pair well with my Survival torch also sold by Amazon. This is a good value for the money. It throws a lot of Sparks into your tender.Simple storage in your backpack or in your tacklebox, whatever your needs may be.
