This would greatly reduce the use of carbon media and even completely eliminate the need of it. Once the Bio Sponge starts housing beneficial bacteria it will help to establish the nitrogen cycle. Also, the maintenance is simple.Just squeeze the Bio Sponge in the aquarium water collected in a bucket when performing water changes. There is no need to do this every time the water is changed, perhaps every two or three months.

Love this product because you can cut to fit any filter! I also cut to clean tank walls! A great deal!

This is surely a matter of opinion, but let me start by getting my score out of the way. This is a great material that could likely stand a very, very high flow pond or huge system. For smaller (or even medium sized) aquariums with lower flow, there is a lot that is blocked from flowing through this material.There's a reason why the typical sponges are lighter and more porous. It's because they need to NOT block everything that goes through them. My fear is that the water flow is restricted too much and therefore anything that could be beneficial, even at a small size, can not pass through. In this case I find myself turning the system off when adding any supplementation or anything else to my tank that MAY not pass through. Again, it might very well get through this, but just watching how the water tries so hard to pass around the sizes of this, I can't imagine anything that is too much thicker than water getting through this with ease.I unfortunately can't recommend this for ongoing use and will go back to a more typical sponge system.

So far so good...be aware that it is very thick and probably won’t work with a mechanical filter because it restricts water flow so much. This is suppose to be mechanical and bio filter in one anyway. Seems to be very durable as well

I used this product to replace the throw away filter pads from my emperor pro 450 filter. Have been using them for 3 weeks now and they are working fine.

Worked exactly as advertised.

After cutting to size the filter does a great job at cleaning out the particulates in the water. The sponge can be used over and over again by just simply taking out of the filter and rinsing off.Overall, very happy with the filter.
