It was very informational and had a lot of great ideas and tips. Granted, I’ve only seen two shoe design books but this was a great one for me to pick up and start with. Has info on different types of leather and materials used for shoes as well as its prosperities. Had design ideas. Interviews with people in the industry. Illustration tips and templates. Love this!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Book on Footwear Design *by A***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 20, 2012* I was more than pleasantly surprised with this book when I received it. The book's contents were certainly not detailed properly in the synopsis on Amazon.I find it to be an excellent reference point for all budding footwear designers.It shows the history of footwear, design techniques, how to research and lay out a collection.I am so happy I bought this book and intend to divulge all its contents. I can see I am going learn many secrets about footwear design that will make me a better footwear designer. Please note that this book is more for footwear design than the actual construction. Although it does briefly demonstrate the use of a shoe last and how a pattern is laid out, it doesnt really give pull out sections on design patterns for shoes. You need a pattern cutting book for shoes for that one. However if you want to learn about footwear design itself then this is your manual of choice! ### ⭐⭐ A book for school kids *by A***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 24, 2015* I think I totally misunderstood what this book was meant to be about when I purchased it. Its basically a book for aspiring older school kids or those just entering college/university and are thinking about working in the shoe industry. There are many case studies of several shoe makers however the only one in the book I've ever heard of is Stuart Weitzman and you can probably find more info on him by searching online rather than reading the one page summary printed in the book. Questions they ask shoe designers to answer are things like 'What are your plans for the future?', 'What do shoes signify for you?', 'Why feet and footwear?', 'What advice can you give a footwear design student who is interested in your field?', 'What is the best way to learn about color?' To me the introduction for this book should read 'so you're thinking about getting a job in the shoe industry and really don't know anything about it? Well have a read of this book to give you some idea's'. In the books defence, a positive is that the pages are made of thick sturdy paper which may explain why its over-priced. If you can pick up this book for under $10 its probably worth buying. I donated my brand new copy away to my local library as its of no value to me.
