As it turns out, it seems to be a composite of stone or granite dust mixed with a large amount of resin--but they call it "cultured granite" to try and get away with false advertising. The fact is that it is a synthetic material--not natural at all. MDF is broken down wood fibers combined with a wax and resin binder, but sellers do not advertise MDF as "cultured wood." And neither should these sellers advertise this as "cultured granite." In addition, I find this fake granite to be unstable and not as strong, for my lazy susan arrived broken and shattered on one side.
