I need about 15 to 20 meters but the manual says I need a 3mm cable for anything 16m or abov** A: All cables generate heat when carrying current due to the resistance of the conductors (I x I x R). When uncoiled the heat escapes easily to the air. 1.5 square mm cable is rated about 16 Amps uncoiled and 5 Amps when coiled on a reel. At 10.4 Amps (Full load of Oregon motor) the heat is 2.5 W per m. A 30 m cable will generate 75 W and if coiled up there is insufficient escape for this heat power and the temperature can build up to damage the cable. Protection against electric shock should be by earth leakage trip (ELCB) as fuse protection is inadequate due to long thin cable and high risk outdoors. Use at least 1.5 square mm cable, uncoiled, with ELCB. **Q: Any one knows what length (size) for Oregon CS1400 's replacement chain please?** A: Look on Amazon page for the saw and select the option with spare chain. Any tips?** A: You seem to expect to be able to put the chain into the groove on the bar without taking into account that the path length for the chain within the groove is much shorter than the path around the top of the walls of the groove. If the chain length were made so big that it was easy to just lift it into the groove there would be far too much slack once it is in the groove. Benno's comparison to putting on a bicycle chain is very good. You need to get as much as possible of the chain around the drive sprocket, into the lower groove, around the tip sprocket and up into the upper groove and then pull the chain that is in the upper groove further along the groove (in reverse) to get more chain in. This will cause the drive sprocket to rotate in reverse. When all the chain is in there will be a lot of slack to take up by the tensioner. An alternative method is to first put the chain fully and tightly on the bar with the bar in your hand and the tensioner wheel fully anticlockwise. With the chain tightly in the groove you will have just enough slack at the back end to put the chain over the drive sprocket and then get the bar over the stud. During this last manoeuvre it may be necessary to allow the chain to slide on the bar in order for the drive links to get properly onto the drive sprocket. Take up the slack with the tensioner. Fit the side cover and pull the chain in reverse to ensure it is correctly mounted and moves smoothly with effort in order to avoid damage when you power up. When pulling the chain make sure the left hand barrier (Brake) is pushed towards the motor). Prime the oiler and oil the front sprocket BEFORE you fit the chain. Pulling the chain in reverse will help you judge the tension. Too much tension will make the chain very difficult to move and will wear the bar. Too little will risk the chain jumping out of the groove. Amazon sell the saw with chain M91VXL056, Pitch 3/8, Gauge 0.05 inch 1.3mm, 56 drive links. Any chain with those parameters will fit. A recommended saw. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Savage *by M***R on 3 July 2024* Ive been using chainsaws for last 30 years, tree surgery, felling and the like. i bought this one for Cutting wood at home to run my boiler on (wood is my sole source of heating.) I've used a lot of chainsaws but never a mains electric one. Been using this one for a week. Initial impression; The saw is well made, tough, well thought out. looks good, its matt black rather than orange but I guess if you lose it in the woods you could always find your way back to it back from the power point. Good weight/balance. Oil level is visible on side of tank which is great because youre never going to check the oil when the petrol runs out. Good trobust cable of a useful length. Performance: if you are someone who often puts their foot on branches to stop them getting away while your cutting them then all that is about to change. No half measures here, the saw is either full revs or off. i don't know what the RPM is but I reckon if would scare the pants off my industrial angle grinder. It has tons of power. I mean if you used it at night you might see street lights dimming. I'm serious, I mean after a week my log pile is now just dust blowing around in the wind. Good thing is, if you did cut your leg off with it or the piece of wood youre cutting spins out of the pile and breaks your jaw there's no immediate worry about where or when to put the saw down. Soon as you let go the trigger it brakes the chain, there's no inertia at all. it's off. Just lay right back and wait until someone finds you.
