You could if you had it up against a wall. Wouldnt have much space on top of it either. **Q: What does the back of the table look like? Does it have to be placed against the wall?** A: Looks like the back of the desk and is the same color. It does not have to go against a wall. **Q: Is this too small to use as an 8 year old's desk?** A: I believe it would work ok. I use mine as a makeup table. I bought a standard size dinner table chair to sit on. The table in question is long, but not very deep. So plenty of room to spread out to each side but not alot of depth. **Q: How thick is the desk overhang? (I am trying to buy a desk mount monitor arm for it)** A: I dont use it for a desk , I use it as a show peice in a very narrow hallway. I hope this helps you.
