It does what I expect a power adapter to do -- plug it into the wall and laptop, watch the "charging" indicator turn on. The size of this thing -- it's very large compared to the original Dell/Alienware adapter. Easily 2x as thick, easily weighs 2x as much. I honestly thought it was a UPS battery -- it's that huge.I'm buying this to keep a spare power supply at the office -- something cheap ( aka disposable ) -- so I don't have to crawl under my desk at home/work and won't care if someone absconds with it. For my use, it's perfect. However, if you're buying this to replace the existing Dell adapter as a real portable power brick, you'll be disappointed.For the price and capability I'm giving it 5 stars.
