But the only way I would want to use this adapter at all would be using it to connect to a 15Amp STYLE outlet, which is actually rated at 20 Amps, fed with #12 wire, fed by a 20 Amp breaker. I think the only purpose of this 20 Amp STYLE outlet & plug is to prevent hooking 20 amps to a #14 wire (cheapskate) circuit. IMHO it is only in recent history that they began distinguishing outlets fed by #12 from those fed by #14 wire by a special designed outlet style. **Q: Can this item be used safely with a stacked laundry center?** A: Yes it can! **Q: I have a 20a breaker with a 15a household female socket (switch). Will this support 20a or downstep it to 15?** A: What do U mean "female socket (switch)"? It used to be that standard household outlets were designed for both 15 & 20 Amps; now they have special plugs and outlets for 20 Amps. #12 wire is rated at 20 Amps, #14 at 15 Amps; so if your breaker was properly installed, a 20 Amp breaker should feed at least #12 wire; 15 Amp breakers could feed #14 wire (cheapskate electricity). I never heard of any device to downstep amps like volts. If a device is rated for only 15 amps, it should be because the copper in it is not thick enough for 20 amps. The amps is determined by the load (applicances) attached. That ability to supply amps is limited by the wire thickness. My guess (ask manufacturer) is that this device is labeled limited to 15 amps only because it might be plugged into a wall socket that uses #14 wire inside the wall, so you would not want to run 20 Amps off of #14 wire. A load limit is not a "downstep." **Q: Can I use this adapter on my car? I have 5-20 cord. And wanted to connect this adapter to the wall.** A: There's can and should. A 15A outlet is rated for only a 12A continuous load.
