Even though it might not take more than 67 pounds to lift up a door from its edge furthest away from the hinge point, the shocks are not designed to extend out that far. They are intended to be mounted with the extension end much closer to the hinge point, and at that position 67 pounds of thrust might not be enough to push the door up and open without assistance. Compartment is 32" deep and the board covering it is 38" and hinged. The board with the mattress and bedding weighed 30lbs at the lift point on the frt. edge. I used this kit and it makes lifting the bed much easier and holds it up with no problem. Took some trial and error as it's all a guess and you have to be sure the cylinders compress but don't bottom out. I put the end of the cylinder at 8 1/2" from the back of the board and 18" from the back on the base. Because of the brackets this kit comes with and the way the studs attach I had to drop the base end about 4". If I had to do it again I would not buy this kit because of the brackets and the stud ends. Would be better if the studs were on the brackets and the ends of the supports were sockets.
