Sharpened polished steel blade, brass fittings, leather hilt with good stitching. Looks durable, feels very solid. The scabbard is leather wrapped and once again, beautifully symmetrical stitching. This is perfect for costume or decoration. Keep it well oiled and cared for, and this sword will amaze for years. Definitely not a toy, or for the faint of heart. As for actual use, it is as they described. "Hybrid bastard." It doesn't fit in any real category. It's too top heavy to be used as an arming sword, and the hilt is too short to be used as a long sword. I feel that this misses the advantages of the middle ground that most one-and-a-half swords have. Either subtracting a little more weight from the blade or adding some more weight to the pommel to keep the length while balancing it more, or extending the handle to allow a proper two handed grip on the pommel to keep the thickness, would make it more functional. Where it stands, it swings a wee bit more like a mace or axe than my other swords, but still usable. That being said, almost everyone, including me, who buys this sword won't need it for actual combat. I'm extremely happy I bought this sword. For the price, it's a steal, and the craftsmanship built into it's appearance and durability are impressive. I'm proud to show it off on display in my living room or den.
