His orthodontist had given him a different one, but it didn't feel comfortable. It hurt his gums and didn't stay in place. Then I bought another one at Walmart and it was too big. I tried cutting it out, but I couldn't smooth the edges. Finally I decided to buy this one, even though I thought it was a little too expensive. This made the trick. It's very soft and it doesn't bother him at all. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is very bulky. My son's mouth looks like he has been punched, but it works and that's what it's important. He does Karate and sparring is always a problem when you have braces.
