### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really the Only Option for Air-Cooling of Hard Disks Without Losing a Slot
*by C***N on May 26, 2016*

I'm in the process, right now, of upgrading an existing PC, and part of that is going to include putting one of these onto each of my size physical hard disk drives. I'm replacing 4x of another type of cooler, which is just SLIGHTLY "taller" and this precludes each drive having its own cooler. The main advantage of this is that the height of the device, when added to a standard-size HD, EXACTLY fills up the standard "available space. Meaning, this will cool both the drive above it and the drive below it, and will not require leaving empty "slots."The design brings in a small volume of air at the "side notches" and forces it outwards through the finned regions. Yeah, it's not a TON of air, but it's more than enough to keep your HD nice and cool when in continuous duty. Obviously, if you can leave a slot open below this, the cooling will be more effective...air from the "open space below it will be pushed out "generally" through the fins... but it's the only air cooler I've found which works well without using up an adjacent slot.If you don't want to give up your HD slots, you have really just three choices...(1) No additional cooling (relying on your case fans' air flow alone, which is the standard of course).(2) Using a slim water-cooling block (which is the best option, if you're willing to go with the complexity and potential risks of a water-cooled computer)(3) Using this.I actually DO water-cool my main system components (motherboard chipset, motherboard MOSFETs, CPU, memory, and video card). But I still prefer this device to most of the HD water cooling blocks I've seen, for reduced risk, reduced cooling complexity, and reduced COST, of course!

### ⭐⭐⭐ OK but too pricey, and may not work with most PC cases drive bays.
*by W***H on January 10, 2017*

It does work, fan spins, for now. Used it for about 1.5 months (not daily though).I Cannot see why this is sooooo pricey though, nearly 20 bucks (Dec 2016) and now I see its dropped to about 14 bucks (jan 2017).At about 8 bucks (shipping included) it would be seemingly worth it, but..still not a high quality bearing system used, it's SLEEVE bearings, NOT ball bearings.Sleeve bearing fans can maintain life spans comparable to ball bearing fans when the sleeve bearing fans are mounted in vertical positions. However, when sleeve bearing fans are mounted in any position other than vertical, the fan’s life span decreases. This fan will most probably, for most all users, be mounted horizontally, which means, it will fail much sooner than a quality ball bearing fan.I cannot complain, they did state that it's a lame sleeve bearing fan in the product listing..Not sure HOW this actually will work with most modern PC cases as the cases almost always use some quick install/release clip method of holding a hard drive into the bays. In those type of drive bays, this fan will not fit. You'd need a bay with more room for this fan to fit on the top or bottom of your hard drive (most probably the bottom). What I did was place this fan in the spare unused drive bay above my WD black HD. Fan blows down to the drive now, but defeats this fans "heat sink" aluminum chassis (no contact to my HD and will now draw heat from it). Any ol fan would have done that job for me, at much less cost.If I had to do it all over again, I'd not buy this, due to the ridiculous price of it (even as it's now about 14 bucks, still way to costly, since it cannot be mounted to a drive and fit into the drive bay AND that it's a sleeve bearing fan).If you need a thin fan, keep looking, else pay the high price for this.Or try this one out and mount in spare bay like I did for my other HD, 3.5" HDD Hard Disk Drive Cooler Cooling Fan Heatsink 28 by Crazy Cart (here on amazon for about 6 bucks). Yes, it too is the cheesy lame sleeve bearing fan too but much less cost than this one and it will blow air on your drive. It is thicker but will fit into spare drive bay. No need for uber thin one like this Scythe.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ quiet, working well so far
*by D***V on December 31, 2015*

easy to mount, works fine so far - been running them for a few days non stop - very quiet, cannot hear them (using two)
