The lock is fastened onto the door, the latch which catches the lock bolt attaches to the door frame. IF both the door and the surrounding frame were flat and in line with each other, the installation would be 10 minutes. Since door frames often have moldings which stick out further than the door, it is chiseling out some of that wood to make the latch even with the lock which causes challenges.
