The lock is fastened onto the door, the latch which catches the lock bolt attaches to the door frame. IF both the door and the surrounding frame were flat and in line with each other, the installation would be 10 minutes. Since door frames often have moldings which stick out further than the door, it is chiseling out some of that wood to make the latch even with the lock which causes challenges. Door thickness is NOT an issue. Good luck. Peter Aside: I have found this to be a very good lock with a smooth reliable mechanism. **Q: How can I turn the plunger over? I want to use it with outword opening door.** A: Will not work as when you shut door the latch will not let door close without locking latch back. They make a deadbolt and that is an option. **Q: Is the key head rounded?** A: Yes, the key head is rounded. **Q: Can the plunger be turned over, so it can be used on an outword opening door?** A: Yes it can be, however you will also need a reverse bevel strike plate if you want to modify the lock for use on an outward opening door.
