Grab any bit set with large enough bits to compare to your 12-2 cable. Find the smallest bit that is larger than the cable with insulation, etc. on it exactly as you intend to pull the cable. Standard 12-2 romex ought to go through a 5/8 inch hole, but I would prefer to use a 3/4 inch hole if I could. I have samples of two kinds of 12-2 that would need at least a 1 inch hole due to the sheathing on them. Be sure to allow for any fittings that you plan to pull (which is sometimes necessary but almost always a bad idea). **Q: How could this work with your extensions when this has a triangular shank and the extension has a 1/4 hex end ?** A: It appears that the extension grabs the drill bit with two set screws. Power for it was taken from an existing interior GFCI outlet. The 1/2" x 36 inch long drill bit was exactly what I needed to get the job done. The 12/2 UF-B cable had to go from the interior outlet, down through the sub floor and sill (approximately 4.5-inches of wood). This got the 12/2 into the crawl space for easy passage to the exterior wall. While drilling I felt the bit strike a framing nail. But fortunately it wasn't a direct hit. So I was able to get past it without too much trouble. But I suspect the drill bit lost eight of its nine lives from the encounter with the nail. This project would have been more difficult without a long flex bit.
