This product is the same thickness aluminum found in local hardware stores. And yes, you need to use the special silver tape for HVAC venting to seal the edges, but that's the primary benefit of having a dryer vent product that is adjustable. This one in particular suited my needs because I needed a discharge pipe at the end of the tube (vice on the side). This product works as advertised and if you need the inlet and discharge holes as depicted, I recommend purchase of it. It's working as designed with my brand spanking new dryer. :-) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 inches deep) were perfect for our application *by J***N on January 20, 2018* It does it's job well. Saves me space behind my dryer where I don't have much space to give up. This (in conjunction with an LG dryer -- they are the only brand that I know of which makes dryers only 27.5 inches deep) were perfect for our application. Other have commented that this thing leaks a lot of air. Perhaps they weren't intended using some foil duct tape on the seams. With a few sheet metal screws to hold it in the right location and then taping all the seams, it's great. In my opinion, it's not at all unreasonable to have to tape the seams -- that's completely normal when working with metal ducting. ### ⭐ poor construction abounds *by B***R on January 2, 2018* Don't even think about buying this productFirst, it is made from the lightest gauge aluminum with exception of the 90 elbow. Second, poor construction abounds. There are up to 1/4" gaps in the junction between the main body and round duct adapter. This adapter is pop riveted together with slightly heavier gauge metal, some of which appears to have been hacksawed to make it fit. There are visible gaps in the corners. It will leak and blow dryer dust unless you seal the gaps. The coupling collar attaching to the dryer is too short to clamp properly. A much heavier gauge, better product is available from Everbilt at Home Depot.
