This particular motion is cable of not detecting animals less than 50 lbs. from a distance of 5 feet or higher. I suggest setting the motion up in a pat alley application. This particular application requires mounting the motion upside down, approximately 3 1/2 feet to 4 feet off of the floor. One night motion was detected by one of the three sensors in the house. I finally noticed that the light on the one sensor didn’t come on when approached. I replaced it with this sensor and it corrected the problem. Easy to replace and wire. I then bought two more in case any others wear out. I’ve only had it in a few weeks but is working well.
