The package says "D2", and all of the experts say that we should only use "D3". My research into this seems to indicate that probably both are not entirely true. When your body makes vitamin D from sunlight, no one argues that this is the best form. Yet, it is labelled D2. I have read that any truly "natural" form of D in the body is actually neither D2 nor D3, because these forms are virtually always synthesized. This is important, because if there is too much D or the wrong form of D, or if it stays around too long, it causes big problems (basically, it wipes out magnesium, which is one of the worst things you can do for your health--see Dr. Carolyn Dean's book "The Magnesium Miracle".The short summary is that virtually all D supplementation in a capsule or pill can cause big problems. This is why no one can agree on how much is too much or too little, and why doctors advise us to have out D levels tested. This product appears to be an exception. Although it is labelled as D2, it is produced from mushrooms by the same process that is used by our bodies. This is why I hesitate to label it as any D fraction.I am currently taking one or two of these each day, since I have almost no natural D production. That seems to be enough so far (waiting for my next test), but I'm cautious about if it may be too much. It may turn out that the Dr. Westin A Price Foundation is correct, and all we need is Fermented Cod Liver Oil, which I also take.FYI-- Too little or too much of either magnesium or "vitamin D" is dangerous to your health. This is NOT an exaggeration. You would think that someone would do a proper study on this, but there's no money available for that.
