Not a substitute for brushing. *by R***. on March 15, 2025* This stuff isn't gonna work miracles as a substitute for actually getting your dog to chew their food and use their teeth, but it is a noticeable improvement to their plaque and breath even so. It's an addition to help their teeth, but it's not a substitute, if that makes sense. My dogs hate teeth brushing; I got them older and they hadn't had it before. So I use this, dental chews, and other lick things with fluoride in them to keep their teeth in as good of shape as I can manage. At the end of the day, convincing your pet to slow down and chew their food is the best bet to healthy teeth, and slow feeders are good for that, and dental chews, but I have two labradors, who see food and immediately lose all reason, so other stuff like this tarter stuff is needed. It does help, but it's not going to replace the need for being mindful of your pet's teeth. It does have a strange smell. My dogs don't mind it mixed into their food, but they're labs, and that breed eats anything. A picky eater might be wary. My biggest complaint though, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is the container itself. Its so tall and narrow-- smaller than the photo makes it look-- that it's hard to get the stuff out once you're halfway through the thing.
