Review: Fantasy Tool - I must admit, this thing looked just so awesome, I had to have it simply as a display piece. When I got it, the thing was easily 25% bigger than I expected in every aspect. From the blade, to the handle, to the sheath, to the stand, everything was not just big, but BIGGER. It is kind of cartoonish. But, before you think this thing completely a joke, remember this: it is designed not only to look good, but CUT good. While heavy, and not something you'll want to wield daily in a restaurant kitchen, it does have a balanced feel (for a cleaver). There is a sense of control, which is nice. The edges (tip and heel) are dangerously sharp, and you need to feel (and be) in control of the tool. It is sharp enough to pass the armhair shave test. If you think this tool "silly", let's think about its' possible uses: melons, butternut acorn or spaghetti squash, a really hard cabbage with one of those gnarly hard cores, strip loins, pork loins, quartering a chicken in 15 seconds, and on and on. Anything you'd hate using a knife on, and dread doing, will likely be child's play for this hatchet. While I bought it mainly for its' wicked looks, I think I'll end up using it more than my Dalstrong Kiritsuke. The potential is vast, and it may be the most powerful kitchen tool I own that I don't have to plug in. While the front looks sharp in the pics, those edges along the front (leading into the top) are NOT sharp. It's to add to the fantasy look Dalstrong nailed to the wall in spades.
Review: Solid - I bought this knife for my room mate for his birthday because he said that he wanted a cleaver when I asked what he wanted. After spending some time looking for one on desertcart, I found this 1 and honestly, I just thought it looked the coolest out of all the others that I saw listed. The price was a little high, but I thought it looked cool enough to justify it and I'd say it did. The knife comes with a hard, plastic sheath to protect the blade if you had to carry it somewhere or if you had small children that like to mess with everything. It also comes with a hand carved, wooden stand for if you don't have children to worry about, you can just keep it on its stand on the counter. Now for the knife itself, this thing is robust. Full tang, so he won't have to worry about the handle snapping when he's cutting meats and other things, and the weight will definitely help with making it easier to cut tough cuts of meat and bone. The edge isn't super sharp, definitely not razor sharp, but it's still plenty sharp enough to do the job that's asked of it. And since the blade is made of stainless steel, it's pretty easy to clean. All in all, I think it's a very nice knife and makes for a very good gift.

## Features

- FOR THE BBQ PITMASTER BREAKING DOWN A WHOLE HOG SHOULDER, BRISKET, OR RACK OF RIBS: 9 inches of high-carbon 7Cr17MoV steel at 60 HRC, 6mm thick, 2.9 lbs of controlled weight — the Obliterator lets gravity do the work. Splits joints, cracks through cartilage, and portions bone-in cuts with the momentum a full-size chef knife simply doesn't have.
- FOR THE HOME BUTCHER QUARTERING A CHICKEN, SPLITTING SQUASH, OR BREAKING DOWN A WHOLE BIRD: The aggressive blade geometry with a razor-sharp edge cuts cleanly through skin, bone, and hard produce in a single stroke. NSF certified for professional kitchen use — built for the volume of a weekend smoker session or Sunday prep.
- FOR HEAVY PREP WITH SURPRISING PRECISION: Despite the heft, the hand-polished satin finish and tapered geometry let you slice and dice when you need to. Extra-thick G-10 handle delivers a rock-solid grip — no slip, no fatigue, even through back-to-back breakdowns.
- FOR THE COUNTER DISPLAY THAT SIGNALS A SERIOUS KITCHEN: Ships with a handcrafted acacia wood display stand plus a PerfectFit saya (sheath) with pin and string. The Obliterator looks like a statement piece when it's not working — and works like a butcher-shop fixture when it is.
- GIFT-READY PACKAGING, DEDICATED SUPPORT: Every Dalstrong knife is backed by a dedicated US-based customer support and handcrafted packaging. Questions about knife care, sharpening, or technique? Our team answers real people, not bots. 3,200+ verified reviews say it all.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this cut through chicken bones?**
A: Cuts through a whole fryer chicken with 1 hit if you do it right. I don't like to damage my cutting board too much so I take 3 or 4 chops to get through the whole chicken usually. It also goes through turkey and pork.

**Q: How does this obliterator compare with the dalstrong ravenger? for processing a whole pig with bone. pros/cons?**
A: Thank you for your question. The Obliterator is a heavier cleaver than the Ravager, and is for heavier duty jobs, like cutting huge chunks of meat, pork bones (but not beef bones).

**Q: Can you dice, mince, julienne and perform small cuts ? Or blade is to thick ?**
A: Thank you for your question. This knife might be too big and thick for delicate cuts, but if you've got the skill, then it's possible.

**Q: I know that to cut thick bones you need a saw, but for smaller bones and chicken bones what do you recommend more, the obliterator or the devastator?**
A: Hi Ernesto, thank you for your question. Ernesto, both knives are good for cutting smaller bones and chicken bones. However, if you want a more light-weighted knife, I would recommend the Dalstrong Gladiator Series 12.5" "Devastator" Cleaver & Butcher Knife. Weighing in at a sizable 1.5 lbs, with a 4mm thick blade, this knife is a menacing cross between a chef’s knife, slicer and a cleaver. With a uniquely designed protruding belly, the Devastator’s blade geometry makes deboning, chopping, rocking, and breaking down beef, poultry, pork, and other animals look like child’s play. Should you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Have a great day!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For the knife nut, chef and fantasy sword nerd alike
*by J***A on May 28, 2019*

Let me just start this review by saying that I’m a lifelong knife nut turned chef. I collect high end folders and have an array of name brand kitchen knives. I professionally sharpen knives for friends and am known to put 15,000 grit polishes on my blades. I think they’re functional works of art.. and this Dalstrong Obliterator cleaver may be one of my favorite knives I’ve ever owned. The 7cr17mov steel is found in many budget valued bushcraft knives. It’s a steel that can take a beating and doesn’t chip easily, but also won’t break the bank. I’m blown away that they could sell this hunk of steel at this price. The fit and finish on the blade is absolutely beautiful. I’m astonished that a 3lb, 9” long, 1/4” thick blade can be so balanced. That being said, if you lack shoulder strength.. beware.. this knife is heavy. It looks like something out of Final Fantasy or Dark Souls. Check my pics. I have medium-large hands and this thing is an absolute chunk. First thing I did with this beast was chop up a few whole chickens for some Korean fried chicken. Just.. wow. Goes through bone like butter. I can’t wait to use this thing to break down elk or venison. I was never given a product for review; I’m just a fan of impressive cutlery and I absolutely love this cleaver. The stand it comes with is rustic, yet refined and beautiful. And the sheath it comes with is high quality with padding on the inside to protect from scratches and absorb shock in travel. Now that I have this, I could never go back to an ordinary cleaver. I’d love to see them come out with a two handed splitting cleaver for butchers. Well done, Dalstrong 👍🏼
