Recently I purchased several Mosin-Nagant 91/30 rifles, from 1936 Rounds to 1941 Hex Barrels. I came across an excellent condition strike, and decided to make it a daily shooter. The poly stock changes the balance and look of the rifle. For a total of $176.54 (rifle + stock), you can have a .30 cal rifle that offers accuracy and firepower. Changing out the stock: (1936 Round Barrel 91/30 Mosin-Nagant) The most difficult part of the process is removing the old wooden stock...this is accomplished by depressing the side springs to relieve the barrel rings, and them removing the receiver and action screws (two total, very easy to do, and if you don't have a screw driver, just use the tip of your bayonette). Once the furniture is off, you'll have to remove the loose rings from the barrel-the front ring is smaller than the forward sight, so you'll have to spread it apart with two screw drivers. The rear ring slides off. Total time: 3-5 mins. Your rifle is in three pieces at this point--the barrel slips into the top of the poly stock, add the washer to the action screw, push the receiver up and in, tighten both screws and you're done. Total time: 2-3 mins. All in all, the fit and finish of the stock is good, it's plastic so there's not much there to grade. Some of the checkering section appears laser cut, and is sharp to the hand. This is remedied with light sandpaper or a sharp knife. This stock has brough new life to a vintage rifle, and brings it's look up to date. If you are looking for an inexpensive powerful rifle, you can't go wrong with this option added to a $110 Mosin. Review: Almost didn't order from reading some of the negative reviews, but I am very pleased. - After reading some of the negative reviews of this stock, I was hesitant to order one, but very glad I did. My wood stock was hacked down so short, and missing the sling stud, so I purchased this for practical reasons. It fit very well. I only had to shave a small amount of material where the bolt handle closes with a razor blade then sand with 220 grit sand paper and it looks perfect. The fit was a bit sloppy in places, due to rifle variations, but it doesn't stand out. There is a small recess where the barrel band would go for certain rifle models and since mine doesn't have the band, there is a small gap under the rear sight between the barrel and stock, but it is not very noticeable. It took 5 minutes to install. And 5 more to do the minor fitting. The stock itself is a bit heavy, but that's not always bad. I was thinking it would be lighter then it is. But that shows quality with these types of molded items. One thing I noticed was the lack of material around the rear screw. It's shorter than a M91/30 (about 27.5 inches in barrel length), but has a slightly thicker barrel than a 91/30.** A: yes it will, but please dont do that to a m28, plenty of other 91/30's and m44's to do it to! keep that rifle as original as possible, they're great rifles! **Q: Does the stock work with the attached bayonet on m44 carbine?** A: The forestock portion is the same length as the wooden one so it should fit. **Q: See a lot about weight. Anyone know exactly how much weight is lost on the 91/30 with this?** A: I would say about a third of the weight. It's nuts how much lighter it gets. Once you can convert it, there's no going back. **Q: Is this stock ambidextrous?** A: Theoretically yes. However the cheek weld is on the right for right handed shooters. Also the mosin is a bolt action that is right handed as well with a casing ejection out the top. A lefty could shoot this but the original stock is more ambidextrous as it does not have a specific sided cheek weld. This didn't take long, and it was simple to see what needed to be done. I also needed to buy a second washer (comes with one) for the rear screw to get the barrel to seat properly. It really ought to come with two, not that the 30 cents really burns me but... It took some fiddling with the screws and washers and still the barrel will "pop" out of the front of the stock a little if jostled hard, but it can be pressed right back in by hand. I'm curious to see if it will pop out with the first shot fired! I think a mini black zip tie would take care of it if it became a problem. All in all, for the money it was a good buy. Fit and finish are not perfect, but who expects perfection for sixty bucks? And shipping was prompt.
