Don’t over obsess about it. I put in 26 eggs in vermiculite, and 24 hatched. Just be careful when they hatch because they look dead. When they dry out, they really start popping around like popcorn. You have to be careful when you open the lid because they pop right on out of the incubator. **Q: Can you use this just as Hatcher? Remove eggs from incubator at 18 days and place in here just to hatch?** A: I'm not sure that I understand your question as typed. An incubator is a Hatcher. I want to give this device a fair review. It is well built in its simplicity. Despite being foam, it is dense and solid. The fan requires installing. Its not difficult but does need some skill. The wafer thermostat also requires installing. This is easy. Just take your time. I get aprox 80-100 percent on local fertile eggs and 50-70% on shipped eggs.I have had a 1602N incubator for some time. I just purchased a second one from IncubatorWarehouse. Fedex had issues shipping - it disappeared off my front step before I got home from work. IncubatorWarehouse sent me another - thank you IncubatorWarehouse.Before you run out and buy eggs, run out and get a decent hygrometer for measuring humidity. I use aΒ  Meade TM005X-M Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo Hygrometer I do not follow the instructions that come with the bator in regard to humidity. I use the dry hatch method - you can do a search in chicken forums for the science behind it. Either way, humidity and temp are critical.I also use an automatic turner - it keeps the touching of eggs and the risk of transferring bacteria to them at a minimum.Have fun with your bator.
