The raised edges helped contain a leaking bottle of fabric softener. I'm sure it would've cleaned up easily with a wet rag, but I just sprayed it off at the coin-op car wash when I washed my Jeep. For those interested, these mats are marketed by Rugged Ridge and Quadratec. I have the first and second row floor liners from Quadratec, but purchased this Rugged Ridge cargo liner because it was cheaper than Quadratec's.
