I am 60 yr old female recovering from Covid19. You will need to warm your hands up. This is true if you were in the best hospital. Run them under warm water and dry them before getting a read. Also, this will not work with acrylic nails. You will have to either put your finger in upside down or you can use your toe. Raynauds will make your toes cold too, so heat them up a little bit. On my unitl it shows in the battery compartment the batteries face the same way. I put in brand new fresh batteries. It lights up but shows zero battery life. I tried the batteries every which way. Tried several fresh batteries. The fresh batteries work fine in other devices just NOT this meter.
