Though its hard to tell in the picture, the top is not all one level surface, there is a frame that runs around the outside and down the middle that is raised about a 1/2" from the rest of the surface. One of the chests had a crack across the front face, basically breaking the support for the top drawer. We had to fix that. The drawers were closed, shipped with no hardware on them (normal), but because of the way the chest was built, we had a heck of a time getting them open to get to the hardware to finish putting it together. The hardware was sub-par. One of the screws for the handle broke off inside the drawer without being able to attach the handle. We had to drill it out and find another bolt. Because we live so far from a big town, I order many pieces of furniture online. This was one of the worst I've bought, and even though I don't like posting negative reviews, I think this is a huge "buyer beware" situation.
