Ot will become darker as the oil saturates the leather. Watch a few videos on youtube. But I swear by this stuff for boots, belts and even watch bands for break in and protection as well as care. **Q: Should this be applied before, after or instead of Resolene? I make leather jewelry.** A: Resolene is a topcoat. This is oil rejuvinator type product. I don't make jewelery but I wouldn't combine the two. I would think unless the oil was completely dry you could have adhesion problems with a topcoat **Q: Is this ideal for black car seats?** A: No Use Saddle Soap for your car seats.. **Q: Is there a brush on the inside of the screw top that is used to apply the oil?** A: No. It's just an 8oz container of oil. I bought this because the picture that I saw looked like it had an applicator tip. What I received was nothing like the picture I saw. I thought if it's this good for ball gloves, I'll try it on my work boots,I could not ask for a better conditioner for new steel toe boots. It may Darken the leather But who cares they are work boots and they still look good. If you treat them as you wear them they kind of help form fit to your feet. So I use this on all my leather,belts,shoes gloves. I do not care if it darkens the leather,I think it makes leather look better anyway. The belts you might want to wait until it drys a bit. 1 1/2 leather belts need to flex a bit anyway. I think I've had 6 leather belts in my working life and they all have had neatsfoot oil applied.
