Review: Cheap and fun lens to get a different photo. - This lens is super fun to play with. Love it!
Review: Best Holga experience, but not perfect. - I really miss using my old Holga camera now that film is crazy expensive/inconvenient to shoot. This is the best replication of the Holga experience - the feel is the same. Still a 60mm f/13 lens, still manual focus with pictures of people and mountains, still clear in the center and darker/blurry on the outside. Won't meter right on a Nikon DSLR, so it still helps if you know how to match your ISO/so forth to light conditions. Price is cheap, so I'd recommend it if you miss your Holga at all. That said, there are some definite differences. The biggest is that the same lens acts differently on an APS-C sized sensor rather than medium format film. It was the perfect angle before, a sort of wide normal lens, but on a smaller sensor the lens is much narrower and less convenient, more like a portrait lens. Also, while the far corners of the picture are dark and blurry and it all looks Holga-ish, if you shoot in square format pretty much everything is fairly clear and doesn't really look Holga-ish. I think the ideal for this camera, or at least the best way to replicate the original Holga, would be to shoot a full-frame camera, square format. I don't have a full-frame camera so that's just a guess. Digital sensors don't act the same way as film with light drop-off, so pictures have a distinct effect but it's just not quite the same. I used this lens on a Nikon 3300. It works fine, but you have to have it in Manual mode, and it won't really meter.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hi! my camera (d3300) says that there is no lens, even when the lens has "clicked" and is attached. What do I do?**
A: Please simply turn the camera to "MF" and/or "M" mode.

**Q: Hi, my d200 is on manual but nothing on the viewfinder. What am I doing wrong?**
A: Since the late 1970s, SLR (and in the 2000s DSLR) cameras show you the view through your viewfinder at the widest aperture of the attached lens. When you snap the photo, it changes the aperture to whatever you set it for so that it is correctly exposed. If you set an aperture to f/16 then hit the depth of field preview button, you will see that light coming through the viewfinder become dimmer. In order to make it easier to see and compose, the camera is designed shows you a better view than what a small aperture will show. This has been a standard feature on SLR cameras for decades.

The Holga lens has a fixed aperture of f/8 (maybe smaller) and it has no electronics or built-in aperture control to allow the camera to show you the clearer view you normally get from standard lenses. Ergo, you get a much darker view through the fixed aperture of the Holga lens. If you attach the Holga lens then go out into bright sun, then you should be able to see something in the viewfinder. The lens works this way on an ordinary Holga film camera, but the viewfinder on that camera is off to the side, and it doesn't "see" through the picture taking lens like an SLR does.

Using a Holga lens on a Nikon DSLR takes some getting used to.

**Q: Does this lens require an adapter if used with a nikon dslr?**
A: No, this lens is to be mounted on Nikon DSLRs directly. No other attachments needed.

**Q: Can you use a lens filter on this lens?**
A: Yes, there are two ways. First is using the original Holga filter holder and Holga filters. Please see https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I94IKPQ?ref=myi_title_dp
Another way is to use a lens adapter tube which allows using 52mm traditional filters.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just add sunlight!
*by P***Z on October 3, 2017*

Exactly what I wanted and I LOVE it. If you get this with the expectation that it is a PLASTIC LENS from a famous TOY CAMERA...then this lovely little thing delivers. I'm using it with an adaptor on a fujifilm xm-1. The adaptor is heavier than the holga lens and feels rather silly. I would love to be able to put this thing directly on the camera, given how fun and tiny it is. Definitely needs a LOT of light, though, and you'll need to fiddle with the ISO. I attached two images--straight from the camera, no editing. EDIT: after a year or so I'm dropping down a star because this thing is kind of a pain to use and it really is FULL sunlight or nothing, and the focusing is a joke. But still worth at least 4 stars because when conditions are nigh perfect...you do get some very cool shots.
