He turns it on every night when we lay him down in his crib, and I occasionally hear him turn it on in the middle of the night or when he wakes up early in the morning. It has really helped him get to sleep more happily. I highly recommend this toy, with the caveat that it’s not necessarily a sleep miracle for all children. My four year old asked for her own seahorse, so I got her one for Valentines Day. She was, of course, but I did not realized that much of her satisfaction would come from repeatedly activating the seahorse to use as a reading light. I let it go for a few hours before I intervened.
