I finally got around to the shower yesterday. I used a foam craft brush to apply to sealant. I don't recommend that form of application because it caused a lot of foaming. However, since I didn't have anything else to use I continued with it. I applied the sealant as per the directions. Let it sit about 3 - 5 minutes and wiped it off the tiles. I only needed to seal the grout as the tiles didn't need to be sealed. After I sealed the grout in the walls I sealed the floor grout. I have a pebbled floor and again, just needed to seal the grout. After I completed the floor and wiped up the excess I waited about 2 hours and repeated the process. The smell didn't bother me until I sat in the living room after completing the task. I got a sore throat and my nose became plugged. I closed the bathroom door and lit a candle in the living room. That took away the odor. This morning I couldn't smell it at all. I dripped a little water on the shower floor and wall and it beaded up perfectly. I had to order a quart more so I can do the remaining grout areas. As soon as it arrives I'll finish the bathroom floor, kitchen backsplash and window sills. Ok, it's been five days since I sealed my shower and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO WEAR A MASK. I have had a sore throat and nasal passages since about 6 hours after using the product. Now, that's completely my fault because I read the directions and they clearly say to wear a mask and open windows and doors and use the fan if you have one. I sealed the bathroom floor grout yesterday. I really like how the water beads up now! Next will be the kitchen grout! I highly recommend this product. I need it for concrete kitchen countertops.** A: I used two coats of the 511 Impregnator Sealer on the white grout between my porcelain floor tiles in my kitchen. Despite frequent cleaning, it wasn't long before the grout became discolored, until now where it is black. Would the 511 Porous Plus be more effective in keeping the dirt out of the grout? If I should apply the Porous Plus, how do I prepare the grout after I clean it? **Q: How many sq feet does a pint cover?** A: It depends on what you are sealing. For slate, flagstone and Saltillo about 250-300 sq. ft. per quart. For polished stone--granite, marble --likely 1000 sq. ft. per quart. For slate I use about 1 Qt. per 300 sq. ft. A bit more with Travertine. It does a great job. I recommend their cleaner prior to sealing. A Pint of the cleaner goes a long way. I had used another product in my other shower which worked fine with my kitchen granite counter tops, but marble and grout are more porous. After applying this product two time with paintbrush and then wiping down five minutes afterwards with moist towel, my shower was sealed real nice. I even went back and re-did my other shower. I found it best to pour a little bit in cup and apply in uniform direction with brush and wiping down in same direction. I cleaned the lime around the sink ... *by T***E on July 5, 2017* Wow. I didn't really expect the results I got with this product, but the 511 really delivered. Three years ago, when I got my granite counter tops, which are a lighter and very porous granite, I was told they were permanently sealed and would require no maintenance on my part. Well, not so much. I have hard water and around the sink area the pores had held water and created a coating of lime that had significantly dulled the granite. This area particularly, and the rest of the counter areas generally, would no longer bead up water anymore and felt a bit gritty for want of a better term. I cleaned the lime around the sink with 15 minute vinegar - oxyclean soaks followed by nailbrush scrubs and water rinses. Probably 6 or 7 repetitions of this and the lime was gone and the surface shine returned. After this I cleaned everything with a 50/50 water - rubbing alcohol wipe and then applied 511 simply following the directions. I applied 4 times to the sink area and 2 times everywhere else. The difference is amazing. The granite surfaces feel so much smoother and the shine has returned. Now water beads up nicely again just as I remembered when the counters were new. While, judging from the fact that overnight wine spills never stained the counters, the permanent seal must have held, this product really returned the smooth feel and shine to the granite. The product's smell really wasn't that bad - the vinegar may have been more obnoxious - and a little really went a long way. So easy to apply, I wonder why anyone would pay someone to seal their granite.
