Review: Great Value for a Heavy Duty Disposal - I purchased the L-8000 as a replacement for an original equipment 1/3hp Insinkerator Badger 1, which began leaking after 11+ years on the job (actually, good longevity for a disposal). The L-8000 is more powerful and comes with a lifetime warranty. The discounted price I received was not much more than the cost of a replacement 1/3hp model from the discounted hardware/do-it-yourself national chains. A couple of notes on installation: 1. I highly recommend to not purchase the 3101 ISE Adapter Kit. You do not need this to install the L-8000. You will, however, need to remove the existing 3-bolt adapter from your sink if your current disposal uses the 3-bolt mounting system (and most likely does). Once you remove the old disposal and old adapter, you will be left with just the sink. I see no advantage to keeping the old adapter and using the Adapter Kit. The L-8000 installation instructions will allow you to attach the new disposal directly to the sink. 2. If you are replacing a smaller rated disposal (1/3hp, 1/2hp) with the L-8000, I recommend that you review the dimensioned drawing of the L-8000 prior to purchase to make sure you have enough room under the sink, including accounting for the existing plumbing. The L-8000 is physically larger. The dimensioned drawing is available on the WasteKing or Anaheim Manufacturing websites and will give you enough measurements to make this judgment. 3. Although the disposal discharge and dishwasher inlet ports on the L-8000 are at "standardaized" distances from the bottom of the sink, the additional width of the L-8000 will likely result in these plumbing attachment points being different from the previous disposal. In my case, I had to buy a slightly longer hose for the dishwasher connection. I was able to adjust the existing plumbing to line up with the L-8000 discharge port, but I did have to cut about 1" from the discharge tube supplied with the L-8000 to fit the existing plumbing. 4. The L-8000 comes pre-wired to plug into a standard electrical outlet, so you are already set if you have a standard receptacle under the sink. Otherwise, you will need to cut off the plug, strip the insulation, and directly connect the disposal wiring to your house wiring using wire nuts. 4. You will need plumbers putty. Pros: 1. Much quieter than the previous 11+ year old Badger 1 I owned. 2. Much more powerful - I can dispose items that I previously would not try with the Badger 1. 3. The L-8000 has a lifetime warranty, 4. The price through desertcart was fantastic and was little more than the replacement 1/3hp models available at the do-it-yourself stores. The only very minor negative I have noticed so far (I have been using the disposal for about 4 weeks) is the inital "pop" you hear when the power switch is first turned on. The "pop" is due to the engagement of the anti-jamming mechanism in the disposal. I have read other reviews that stated the "pop" gets quieter as the disposal is used more, but I have not noticed any noise reduction to date. However, the noise does not really bother me (just "different" than the previous disposal I had). Overall, I am very satisfied with the L-8000. I am pleased with the performance to date. Installation was fairly simple, with a few adjustments as I have already noted. I am not a plumber by any stretch. For undersink plumbing like mine, installation is most likely manageable for anyone that can use hand tools and has some experince with fixing small stuff around the house.
Review: great replacement disposal, two years later it is still a wonderful disposal - 7/6/15....Update...Two years later this disposal still works wonderfully. I did replace the little baffle in the sink drain, but that is a wear and tear item, and it was around $5. We will be building a new home soon. I will be putting one of these in it. I had the Badger 1/3 hp disposal. It came with our home when we bought it in 2010. the house was built in 2000. i think it is fair to assume the disposal was new in 2000. It did not really grind up very much but it was noisy. Last week it started to leak form the bottom as a 13 year old disposal may do. I read that I could repair the seal but it is not an overly simple task, and it is not all that cheap. Well I read some great reviews about the Waste king, SO I bought a new 8000 for my family. The install was quite simple for a moderately experienced DIYer. I had the old disposal out and the new on in in under 45 minutes. i was pleased and amazed as I read reviews saying this could take hours, and that professional plumbers had trouble installing it. If those are true, fire the plumber this was simple. Upon installation I noticed this thing is quite powerful, but it is much quieter than the out going 1/3 HP badger. The most notable things for installation. When un-installing the badger, there is a snap ring that holds the old drain in. Just loosen and remove the badger, by hammering the clip on the collar. then loosen the 3 bolts holding the collar tight. Then under the collar there is a snap ring. Some said to use a screw driver to remove it. I found it easier to grab it with channel locks and pull it off. After doing that the collar drops off and the drain lifts out. Then on re installation, note how the rubber collar is installed on the drain. Peel it off and slip the retaining clip off. Then place the drain in the sink hole as the directions instruct. Place the clip on then re-install the rubber collar on and lock it all together. It is really plug and play after than. This disposal is great so far. No need to register the unit for the lifetime warranty. Word to the wise write down the serial number prior to installation. it is difficult at best to do after installation, the SN is on the bottom of the unit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has any one had problems with the "easy mount" on a SS sink? The cushion mount slipped out of the mount ring on the second day.Is vibration a problem?**
A: The Easy Mount doesn't seal well on a SS sink. I've had a plumber out a couple of times to remedy the sink seal. Last fix was a couple of years ago and we just discovered it's leaking again.

**Q: What does "lifetime" mean. If I am 25 and it konks out when I am 50, what do I get? Is it pro-rated?**
A: This is the best. I bought mine in 2013 (5 years ago) and its worked perfectly, until a couple of days ago, it would not start. Power to GFCI plug on, reset button tripped. When I reset the button, it came on about 1/2 second and stopped. Troubleshooting indicates the brushes on the electromagnetic motor need replacement. I called Anaheim customer service (the company that manufactures Waste King and all they needed was the original purchase date, my name, and the serial number from the unit. A brand new replacement unit should arrive in a couple of days. Zero charge for the unit or shipping fee.
They offered to have a plumber come install it too, also no charge, however, since I’m pretty handy, I don’t need that. The total time on the call to resolve the warranty replacement was about 15 minutes, due to an approximate 3 minute wait time to speak to the representative. All is needed to complete the warranty process is the serial number tag from the existing unit and the serial number from the new one, mailed back in to Anaheim Manufacturing. Easy peasy!! Great service and they stand behind the lifetime warranty!

**Q: I need to replace an insinkerator badger 5. would this be able to b installed easily where the old one was w/o having to reinstall the drain partstall**
A: Won't fit your existing badger drain flange (same system used by most brands). You will have to remove yours and replace it with the included Waste King drain flange in order to mount the new unit.

**Q: I am looking for a unit that will be direct wired (no outlet). Will this unit work?**
A: I direct wired it but it wasn't easy to remove the plug. I ended up having to cut the cord and mutilate the grommet the cord went through in order to get it out. In my opinion if there's one without a cord that's a few dollars more I'd buy that one.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to install!
*by C***0 on June 4, 2015*

Let me start off by saying that I am not a handyman or plumber. About the extent of things I'm able to "build" are tables with step by step instructions from IKEA or mounting a TV mount to the wall. Other than that, i'm not very handy (my wife would say not at all handy). When my old garbage disposal started leaking, I called a plumber. He came to my house and told me I needed a new disposal. He told me the MINIMUM price would be $498 for the "bottom of the line" disposal, but it would "get the job done." I had already researched disposals and seen the Waste King on Amazon, so I asked him what they would charge for installation if I provided the disposal. He quoted me $250. Honestly, I considered it, but then (luckily) declined. Right after he left, I ordered the Waste King L-8000 on Amazon. I looked up installation and watched some installation videos specifically for this model. It didn't look too bad at all so I figured i'd give it a shot. My Waste King L-8000 came this morning. I completely removed my old disposal, which was not difficult at all. The only thing that kind of got me was dislodging the spring to disconnect from the sink. Probably took me 15 minutes (including walking my disposal out to the trash). After re-watching some installation videos and reading through the instruction booklet, I figured I was ready to install. Turns out, I got worked up over nothing. The installation of this disposal took me 10 minutes. I was shocked - I thought there'd be more to in. The EZ mount system is incredibly easy. I would be pissed if I had to pay someone else to install it. If you're thinking if hiring someone else to install this system with the EZ mount, I would save my money. Unless you're unable to lift the 14 pounds this disposal weighs or you just can't physically get on your hands and knees to install - do it yourself. I bet a professional plumber would be able to remove the old disposal and install the new one total in 15 minutes. WAIT A SECOND - that means if my plumber quoted me $250 to remove and install and it really did take him 15 minutes, i'd be paying him at a rate of $1,000 an hour. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Save your money and install it yourself. As far as the disposal goes, I've only had it installed for about 8 hours now and so far I love it. It's much quieter than my old disposal and although bulkier, it's much more powerful. I tested some food and waste products on it and it handled it all with no problems. The one thing I did miss, however, is the connection to the dishwasher. The disposal comes with a little cap over the part where you connect your dishwasher hose. You can't see it, but it's inside. There are specific directions which I overlooked that tell you to knock out the cap with a dowel or metal rod. I didn't do this, even though I connected my dishwasher hose. I ran a load of dishes this afternoon and when the load finished, I opened it up and noticed a pool of water at the bottom of my dishwasher. After re-reading the instructions, I then saw that I needed to knock out the cap for the dishwasher to drain properly. Once you knock out the cap, it stays in the disposal until you remove it. It's really annoying and the instructions say that you can leave it and it will be ground up after several uses. It was too annoying for me, so I used a pair of tongs to remove - simple. I would highly recommend this disposal not only because it is a fine piece of machinery, but also because it is very straightforward and easy to install!
