I use it all the time, whether baking for vegan friends (I do not have any dietary restrictions myself). I also use it for certain recipes as a substitute for non-vegan food when I am out of eggs/cream/butter/etc., to avoid having to go to the store, because I often have the vegan ingredients I need to make these recipes. One caveat: I am a professional baker and chocolatier. I was surprised to see negative reviews on this cookbook, since the recipes seem universally well-written and well-tested, however, I understand the critique from some readers that the recipes are complicated. I would not recommend this book to an inexperienced baker, unless they were looking for a challenge.I have collected many cookbooks over the years, and borrowed many from the library. There are a handful that I go back to again and again, and this is definitely in my top ten. My favorite recipe is the Chocolate Orange and Almond Olive Oil Cake; I make it all the time.If you are vegan and looking for recipes that are professional, comprehensive, and easy to follow, this is your cookbook. I will be keeping my eye out for more from this author. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You don't have to be vegan to love this book.... *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2017* I've owned this book 2 years, maybe a bit longer, I didn't purchase this book right away when it came out but I did eventually and I'm ecstatic I did. This is my go to birthday cake book and if I'm just in the mood for something delicious and I know the recipe will work book. I try not to eat too much chocolate, but when I'm craving this goddess aka chocolate, I'm reaching for this book. It seems very involved yes, however just follow the directions and I promise it's worth it. Also once you try the recipes once or twice they are actually very simple. Don't let the so called "intimidating list" of ingredients scare you from experiencing this wonderful book. By the way the Brooklyn Blackout cake is a must try, don't skip it! It's one of my favorites, I've made this maybe 3-4x now. As well as the simple no oil cake and the brownies and so on. I could eat that pudding from the blackout cake recipe just alone, yummmmm.... Anyway times are tough right now, have some joy in your life and add this to your collection of vegan cook books. -P.S. you don't have to be vegan to enjoy these very well thought out recipes. My mom is not vegan and not a chocolate lover as I am, but she loves the cakes I make from this book. Best ### ⭐⭐ Didn’t like the recipes *by A***A on Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2018* I tried four recipes:Chocolate Torte to Live For - it was okay, but I didn’t love itBlack Bottom Cupcakes - the author says not to worry about the cupcake liners getting full, but my cupcakes overflowed. The proportions of the cream cheese filling is also off because the directions say to add three tablespoons but there is no way three tablespoons on filling could fit and there wasn’t enough filling to do that anyway.Fudgy Chocolate Chip Brownies - these were delicious and I would make againChocolate Chunk Banana Bread Pudding - it was very... dry for a pudding. It just seemed like a salad instead of a pudding. There is no way you could cut this into any shape as the author suggests.Also, I was disappointed to see that the eclair recipe was just a cake cut in half, and the buche de noel is just a layered cake instead of a rolled cake.I’m glad that so many people liked the recipes in this book, and I’m sure there are great recipes to be found, but I just didn’t have good luck with it.
