The majority of the cover is made from thin nylon and I'm not sure how long it will last between pets and kids buy if you take your time placing it properly over the chair you shouldn't have any issues tearing the fabric. The only thing I found weird was the way it fit around my headrest. I eventually took my headrest off, slide the covers on and put the headrest back by poking holes in the covers.
