I don't see why not. The guage of the metal is pretty thick. The drum is pretty heavy in general. It is a sealed drum. So the water will not leak out of the bottom. I just used it to burn twigs. **Q: Does it have lid that has two openings like 2" and 3/4"? One picture shows the lid, another doesn't.** A: This 55 gallon Open Head steel drum comes with a lid with 2"and 3/4" bungs and a bolt ring closure. **Q: Does the solid lid just fit over the barrel, or do you have to use the bold ring closer for the lid to fit on the top of the barrel?** A: The lid can be seated on top closing the drum. Without the ring on, the lid can come off in heavy winds or if knocked over.
