You only need a thin layer, but the layer must all be one. Do not over coat, it will leave a brown residue that detracts from the effect. **Q: will it give the same effect if added to epoxy?** A: No. It is a matrix of liquid crystal that is setup when it dries as a thing film. The epoxy clear coat is to protect the matrix and the color changing effect. It is an effect that is seen with a dark contrast background. Use black as a background. **Q: Can i mix this into resin? Or would it be best to just use as a paint?** A: It is best used as a thin airbrushed coating. The Liquid crystal will align when it dries. It needs the contrast of a Black or Dark background to see the effect clearly. A perfect example is a Black ABS 3d printed object that is airbrushed lightly with the liquid crystal paint that has been thinned a little with distilled water. Then to protect the liquid crystal matrix that aligns when it dries, you coat it with a strong clear coating, such as an epoxy (without bubbles). The liquid crystal coating must be let to dry before coating so the matrix or micro crystal aligns. To reset the refractance you can put the item in the refrigerator or freezer.
