Review: Light on fake history, heavy on insight - Prior to reading this well researched and documented scholarly work, I had no reason to doubt OTIS Elevator`s fanciful recreation of Elisha`s famous demonstration of his patented elevator safety mechanism at NYC`s Chrystal Palace in the late 1850`s. I don't doubt that it took place, only that it's impact was immediate and palpable. More likely, something closer to Adam Smith's invisible hand was the unseen, unstoppable force that was revolutionizing western culture by totally disrupting the real estate market. And with it, society as a whole. This book stands out in a world of credit taking and marketing hogwash and offers many insightful looks into this Architectural niche which even today, remains a bit of a black box in the industry.
