I think they work just fine. I put the tops and the rings in the dishwasher and reuse. **Q: Any special trick to opening to ensure reusability? Regular bottle opener works?** A: Do not use a regular opener the lid will be ruined. Look on the actual site they do have a special opener. But also if you used a flat knife in several places will work. **Q: What's the difference between ez seal and regular Tattler reusable lids?** A: The design has been tweaked to allow better venting thus less liquid loss and a better seal. Tattler Reusable Canning Lids no longer makes the original design. Last production was summer of 2014. If it doesn't say E-Z SEAL on the lid beware of knockoffs! **Q: What kind of rings do you use?** A: If you are referring to the rubber rings that come with the plastic lids, they are a food grade nitrile material.
