Review: Very pleased with this Bacopa so far + Advice for Bacopa shoppers - -Review of this Bacopa- Bought this after finding Pure Science 600mg 50% Bacosides too strong (which led to it destroying my sleep), and Bixa 450mg 10% Bacosides that was a bit too weak. This bacopa is just right, when I take 1 cap instead of the recommended 2 caps, and I'm very happy with my purchase. Capsules are easy to swallow, and less smelly than my previous brands. They give me the calming and cognitive benefits I want while still being about to sleep through the night. -Advice for Bacopa shoppers- -Bacopa comes in all different types and concentrations and you may need to try several (like I did) to get the best benefit. -There are two main varieties of bacopa: Bacognize (such as this bacopa) and Synapsa. The former has a sedative effect, good for relieving anxiety, but if you don't have anxiety problems it will make you unmotivated instead--so in that case use a Synapsa-based bacopa. -Bacopa leaf is a lot weaker than bacopa plant. -In general, you can roughly gauge the strength of a given brand by multiplying the amount of extract by the percentage of bacosides (eg. 300mg * .5 = 150 mg) -Be sure to take it with something fatty (eg whole milk) for maximum absorption. -The cognitive effects aren't fully apparent until about 6 weeks of regular use; however, the calming effect kicks in as soon as it enters your bloodstream. -You may get diarrhea after starting use of bacopa--this is normal and temporary. Review: Seems to help with symptoms of too much serotonin - I've had a medical mystery going on for over 5 years. Every March right around the same date I start getting extremely dizzy, anxious and a few other things. There's certainly nothing about march that would make me more anxious and I ruled out allergies by controlling them. I happened to read an article online about how some people may have higher levels of serotonin that start to go up during the spring, leading to a mild serotonin syndrome-- and that they have symptoms similar to mine. It mentioned that people who have autism run in their families may have this problem (which I do) but it's still a mostly under researched area. It mentioned that bacopa can help with serotonin balance. So I ordered these out of desperation, they arrived in the mail just as I was about to fall over and pass out. I took two pills and about a half hour later started to feel remarkably less dizzy and extremely focused. I am amazed! I plan to order a years supply! I have tried different supplements for years and have thrown most of them out due to ineffectiveness so I dont think this is a placebo effect. This may not work for you depending upon what your problem is but I believe this may indeed be doing something to help my serotonin levels and so it is working for me .
